Robert Jensen is an associate professor of journalism at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has taught since 1992. He is the author of Writing Dissent, The Heart of Whiteness, and Citizens of the Empire. His most recent book is Getting Off: Pornography and the End of Masculinity, published by South End Press. On June 8, Jensen gave a talk at MonkeyWrench Books on the themes in his last three books. He examined how nation, race, and gender affect our understanding of ourselves, with a focus on the unjust systems of power and privilege in which they are embedded. Podcast includes a discussion with audience members. To put some of Jensen's remarks in context, also present at the talk was Alexander Dwinell, one of the collective members of South End Press, which published Jensen's latest book. Dwinell was present to unveil some of South End's new titles and answer audience questions. (He also unveiled a shocker: South End Press is considering relocating to New York!)
